Lesson Plan: Video Excerpt: Touring the Cape Coast of Ghana

The first clip associated with the Traces of the Trade lesson plan shows filmmaker Katrina Browne and some members of her family -- descendants of slave traders -- traveling to Ghana to visit a place where captured Africans were brought and held before being sold as slaves. Students should discuss whether or not the descendants of those who benefited from slavery need to help repair the injustices and inequality that resulted from slavery.

In this excerpt from Traces of the Trade, filmmaker Katrina Browne and members of her family — descendants of slave traders — travel to Cape Coast, Ghana to visit a place where captured Africans were brought and held before being sold as slaves. At the forts they met with Kofi Anyidoho, a revered Ghanaian poet, who leads them through the process of what it was like to become a slave.
