On September 28th and 29th, POV was proud to partner with StoryCorps and the Brooklyn Museum to celebrate arts in Brooklyn. Check out these fun photos, videos and highlights from the weekend.
On Saturday and Sunday, POV partnered with StoryCorps, the acclaimed oral history project, to celebrate the 17th Annual Dumbo Arts Festival. The Dumbo neighborhood transformed its streets, parks and studios with a diverse collection of art, music and performances, offering a breadth of work from the local, national and international art community. Festival goers gravitated to Brooklyn Bridge Park to view pieces like the historic Jane’s Carousel, Daisuke Kiyomiya’s exhibit of delightfully oversized macaron sculpture, and The Ship of Tolerance, an installment by Russian artists Ilya and Emilia Kabakov anchored in the East River.
On Sunday, POV and StoryCorps presented the Brooklyn premiere of Listening is An Act of Love: A StoryCorps Special to a packed house in POV’s new screening room. POV’s Executive Producer, Simon Kilmurry, moderated an afternoon panel with StoryCorps Animators, Mike and Tim Rauch, and Co-Executive Producer for Animation, Lizzie Jacobs. In the POV office, StoryCorps staff also recorded interviews with local filmmakers, documentary stakeholders, funders and non-profit leaders. At street level, StoryCorps parked its mobile booth in front of the POV office, offering festival guests an opportunity to tour the vehicle that records stories from people across the country.

On Saturday, POV and the Brooklyn Museum presented a sneak-preview screening of Brooklyn Castle, followed by a Q&A with Brooklyn I.S. 318 chess players Alexis Paredes, Justus Williams and Patrick Johnston. Then the Brooklyn Museum offered guests a chance to play chess on a life-size chess board, as well as custom, 3-D printed chess boards, with pieces created in the likeness of art exhibits in the museum.
