In honor of Earth Day and Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month, we’ve collected all these films and resources into ‘Featured Themes’ which can be found on our For Educators page. Each ‘Featured Theme’ presents educators with our most popular accompanying content, including lesson plans, discussion guides, web features and reading lists.
Featured Theme: The Environment
Earth Day is coming up on April 22, forty-three years after the first Earth Day on April 22, 1970. Today, more than one billion people participate in Earth Day activities every year, making it the largest civic observance in the world. Accompanying material for If A Tree Falls, Food Inc., The Chances of the World Changing and The City Dark, among others, elucidate the importance of environmental awareness to students.
Featured Theme: Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month
Asian-Pacific American Heritage Month (May) traces its roots back to 1978 when a congressional resolution inaugurated Asian-Pacific American Heritage Week. Congress expanded the week into a month-long celebration in 1992 in observance of Asian-Pacific American accomplishments. Accompanying materials for films such as American Aloha, The Learning, Enemies of the People, The Betrayal and Last Train Home are available in the Asian/Pacific American Heritage collection.
