Whereas, Brooklyn has a long tradition of embracing the arts, and is home to many who have dedicated themselves to the art of making film, as well as to countless residents and visitors who are committed to supporting film and cinema, it is most fitting that we celebrate those organizations and individuals who promote this magical art form, which offers a lasting and meaningful depiction of the human condition; and

Whereas, all of Brooklyn joins together in spirit as the staff and supporters of POV — and acclaimed and influential series airing on PBS as the longest running showcase for independent documentary films on television — host the launch party celebration of their momentous and auspicious 25th Anniversary Season; and

Whereas, on behalf of all Brooklynites, I salute the staff of POV for their ongoing efforts to bring films of international acclaim to audiences in Brooklyn, I commend them for premiering over 300 informative and gripping documentaries to television audiences in Brooklyn and beyond since 1988, and I thank all those present for helping to make Brooklyn a better place to live, work, and enjoy international cinema;

Now, therefore, I, Marty Markowitz, President of the Borough of Brooklyn, do hereby proclaim Tuesday, June 5, 2012 POV 25th Anniversary Season Launch Party Celebration Day in Brooklyn, USA.
