The Webby Awards has announced its nominees for 2012, and we’re excited that StoryCorps Shorts: September 11 Stories has been named an honoree in the Documentary Series category!
The animated shorts, directed by the Rauch Brothers, premiered online in September 2011 — You can watch them on POV’s website. It’s an exciting follow up to last week, when POV shared a Peabody Award with StoryCorps for its collection of 9/11 remembrances.
Public media received multiple nominations this year, spanning categories including Television, Entertainment, Documentary Series, Youth, Religion and Spirituality. You can see the full list at webbyawards.com, but we’ve pulled out the nominees from a few of the categories of particular interest to documentary filmmakers, web documentarians and artists interested in raising awareness for social issues below. (Descriptions come from the Webby Awards site.)
