The Reckoning

The Human Rights Watch International Film Festival returns to The Film Society of Lincoln Center’s Walter Reade Theater starting June 11. The festival opens with a special presentation of The Reckoning: The Battle for the International Criminal Court by Paco de Onís, Peter Kinoy and Pamela Yates (POV 2009) on June 12 which will be followed by a panel discussion with the filmmakers and experts on the issues. POV, Human Rights Watch and the Film Society of Lincoln Center are also teaming up to present a special screening of New Muslim Cool by Jennifer Maytorena Taylor (POV 2009) on June 18. New York Women in Film and TV and Women Make Movies presents: “Fundraising and Financing for Independent Documentary Films: An Intensive Seminar” at Hunter College on Saturday, June 13. The day long seminar will feature a mix of panels and case studies. Panelists include POV’s Executive Director Simon Kilmurry.

Rooftop Films features two panel discussions prior to the screening of Persona Non Grata by Fabio Wuytac on Saturday, June 13. The panels include “Filmmaking Strategy: Tips, Tools and Wisdom to Help You Make the Right Decisions for Your Film” featuring POV’s Executive Director Simon Kilmurry.

AFI-Discovery Channel SILVERDOCS Documentary Festival kicks off on June 15. The POV team will be out in full force with panels featuring Simon Kilmurry, Cynthia Lopez and Eliza Licht. The festival also features six upcoming POV films: Nutkin’s Last Stand by Nicholas Berger; The Way We Get By by Aron Gaudet; Ella es El Matador (She is the Matador) by Gemma Cubero and Celeste Carrasco; Off and Running by Nicole Opper; Utopia Part 3: The World’s Largest Shopping Mall by Sam Green and Carrie Lozano; and Bronx Princess by Yoni Brook and Musa Syeed. Chicken & Egg Pictures‘s Open Call is now open for submissions.
