Maria Finitzo tackles the task of portraying what life is like for an adolescent girl in 5 Girls. In this interview, she comments on the subjects of her documentary and the similarities and differences in their experiences. She describes how the girls seemed to need a soundboard to listen to their feelings while they were trying to figure out who they are.
