Fear and Learning at Hoover Elementary: Filmmaker Bio
POV
Laura Angelica Simón was born in Mexico and lived there until the age of six when her family emigrated to America. Simón began her career working for a non-profit organization that dealt with immigrant rights and education. When the organization fell into bankruptcy she sought employment as a substitute elementary teacher where she was quickly hired and later promoted to full-time status teaching third graders. Simón's personal odyssey and involvement with the plight of her students led her to the making of Fear and Learning at Hoover Elementary.
