I feel the US is going further downhill simply because our somehow re-elected leaders are throwing more and more of our economy away on other country's affairs, harming them, as well.

— Geena, Here (9/6/2007)

It seems to the outside countries that America generally comes off as arrogant and electronically obsessed. The outside countries governments differ so greatly from Americas they will either agree or disagree with our government. Either way a strong opinion comes through. Some seem to either see America as an example to follow or an example to stray from. Some feel America sets foot in places where they shouldn't. Some feel they help. Some are jealous even. The bottom line i feel is no matter where your from its not the country that your from that influences your opinion so much as everyone, every single person has a differing personal opinion.

— Jackie, Medfield MA (9/6/2007)

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else but America. I don't really care what people say. To be completely honest when people ask me who I want to be president I tell them that I don't know because quite frankly I couldn't care less. True story.

— Nicole, Mefield, MA (9/6/2007)

people in other countries see the citizens on the united states merely what is in the media and what their governments tell them. we do have a share of ignorant, greedy people. but the majority of us are just leading happy, free lives. At the beginning of the war, I strongly opposed to the idea of war in Iraq, but now I think it would be a mistake to end it, for it would jeopardize our safety.

— Brianna, Medfield (9/6/2007)

i believe that people in other parts of the world think that the people of the united states are all obsessed with money and very materialistic. Also i think that people in other parts of the world only see what our Government does and not what the people of the country actually think. But i also agree that we only view the negative side of countries in the media and so forth.

— jason Alinsky, Medfield, MA, (9/6/2007)

There absolutely right. every last one of them who hates us for bing ignorant and not knowign whats going on there right we are ruining the world and we are just to scared to admit it we a just in to deep.

— Alex Rock, Boston, MA (9/17/2007)

I think that after reading about other countries control, im grateful for the American society and government. It is important to remember how lucky we are for our freedom and for all the oppertunities we are given

— A, Mass. (9/17/2007)

I think many people from other countries have stereotypes of American and American people. They believe the things they see on television and television is full of stereotypes and it is not really what people are like. Also people in poor countries blame us for their promlems even though we have nothing to do with it, or even try to help.

— Ali, Massachusetts (9/17/2007)

As an American i feel as though the United States tries their hardest to develop and grow. The United States also seems to go out of their way to help other countries, which has evidently only caused problems. Maybe if we werent always so involved and only responded to cries for help, then we would not be stuck in such a rut.

— person, ma (9/17/2007)

I feel that everyone has the right to their opinions and what they see on the news and in the papers are not good representations of our country. Seeing Paris Hilton and global warming prblems being put before epidemic and world wide issues is hard for everyone to view and deal with in and out of the U.S. I believe that the foreign policy should be changed to let more people into our country because everyone has the right to live wherever they want. The preconcieved notions of our country and judgement is not good and therefore I believe our governemnt needs to do something about that.

Say the words "Beirut" or "Lebanon" to anyone over 30 and they would probably free associate words like "kidnapped American citizens," "Terry Waite," "civil war" and "scary." But that was the 1980s. Beirut today is the most populous city in Lebanon, a major tourist attraction and the site of the thriving American University, a private college founded in 1866 under a charter from New York state. Documentary filmmaker and NPR reporter Kate Seelye visited the campus in the Fall of 2005 to talk to graduate students about their views of American policies in the Middle East. (4:21 minutes)
