Alan BerlinerAlan Berliner is an independent filmmaker/media artist whose work has been exhibited throughout the world and is in the permanent collections of many museums, universities and libraries. A recipient of five Emmy nominations and two Emmy awards, he has received grants from the National Endowment for the Arts, NY State Council on the Arts, and fellowships from the Rockefeller, Guggenheim and Jerome Foundations, as well as the New York Foundation for the Arts. He is currently on the faculty of the New School for Social Research in New York City where he teaches a course entitled, "Experiments in Time, Light and Motion."

His critically acclaimed film, Intimate Stranger (1991) won awards and honors at festivals worldwide, including the prestigious Distinguished Achievement Award from the International Documentary Association in 1993. The Family Album (1986) was praised by Roger Ebert as "the most intriguing film" of the 1987 Edinburgh International Film Festival and was included in the 1987 Whitney Museum Biennial Exhibition. Both films aired on POV in previous seasons and were also broadcast worldwide. Select retrospectives of Berliner's films have been presented at both the Museum of Modern Art and the International Center for Photography in New York City. In addition to his work in film, Berliner has also produced a substantial body of audio/video installation works.
