In this lesson, students will use the documentary Seven Songs for a Long Life by Amy Hardie to explore the experience of living with a terminal illness or providing care for someone with a terminal illness. Through the stories of nurses and patients at Strathcarron, students will learn about the challenges of balancing physical care with quality of life and reflect on the value of arts and music in palliative care.

Hooligan Sparrow (About the Film)
In this lesson, students will establish what the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and Article 35 of the Chinese Constitution say about freedom of speech and assembly. They will also research and write biographies of American activists that compare U.S. government treatment of those activists with treatment of the Chinese activist known as Hooligan Sparrow by her country's government. In an informal but focused conversation, they will share with classmates what they have learned about their assigned activists and about free speech.
