Filmmaker Bio

Melanie Vi LevyDirector Melanie Vi Levy holds a master of fine arts in documentary film and video from Stanford University and a bachelor of fine arts from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. She has collaborated with Ping Chong & Company, the Atlantic Theater Company, the Aperture Foundation and Axis Films and has worked as an associate producer, coordinator and editor for various projects, including projects for the Discovery Channel and the Travel Channel and for theatrical release.

Her directorial work includes Leaving Paradise: The Jews of Jamaica, The Secret Life of Beards (winner of an Artistic Vision Award at the Big Sky Documentary Film Festival), A Different Color Blue (Winner, Best Student Documentary, Palm Springs International ShortFest) and most recently her thesis film, My Name is Sydney, which was nominated for a Student Academy Award® and an IDA/David L. Wolper Student Documentary Award.
