New York, N.Y. — Nov. 16, 2017 — American Documentary (AmDoc), the parent organization of the PBS documentary series POV, recently announced the hiring of Kristal Choy as the vice president of finance and business affairs. Working closely with the executive director, Choy will oversee all aspects of AmDoc’s financial strategy and advise the executive director in organizational planning and evaluation efforts.
“Kristal Choy comes to POV and AmDoc with an extensive set of experiences in both nonprofit and for-profit organizations,” said Justine Nagan, executive producer/executive director of POV/American Documentary. “As AmDoc’s staff continues to expand and we enhance our quality programming on air and online, we’re thrilled Kristal will be helping us build our organization’s capacity in our 30th year and beyond.”
Produced by American Documentary, POV is public television’s premier showcase for nonfiction films, bringing viewers across the country bold non-fiction storytelling in their living rooms, communities and on-line. Since 1988, POV has been home to the world’s brightest contemporary filmmakers. AmDoc also produces America ReFramed, a year-round documentary series that highlights diverse stories from around the country. A co-production with the WORLD Channel, the series launched in 2012 to respond to the growing need for intimate and diverse stories that are domestically based.
“I’m honored and thrilled to join the team,” said Choy. “With its mission of bringing excellent documentaries to the public in mind, I look forward to expanding and strengthening the organization’s financial strategy and vision, while supporting its leadership in the transformative media space.”
Prior to American Documentary, Kristal was the director of finance at Crisis Text Line and previously acted as a development consultant for Asante Africa and OneDegree, nonprofit organizations focused on access to education and resources.
