Our Premiere Party sponsors:

Grounds for Change is a family owned and operated coffee roasting business located in the Pacific Northwest. It roasts 100% fair trade, organic coffee in small batches to ensure that you receive the freshest coffee possible. All of its coffee is fair trade certified by the IMO and its organic certification meets the stringent organic processor standards enforced by the United States federal government and the Washington State Department of Agriculture. The vast majority of the coffee the company sells is also shade grown coffee, which ensures a healthy habitat for migratory birds. A number of community-based programs in coffee-growing countries directly benefit from purchases of the company’s coffee. For example, farmers in Peru and Mexico receive a higher price per pound for their coffee (above and beyond the going rate for certified coffee) to help support local domestic violence intervention programs and small business loans for women.

Newman’s Own Organics: The Second Generation was started in 1993 by co-founders Nell Newman and Peter Meehan as a division of Newman’s Own and became a separate company in 2001. Newman’s Own Organics produces a line of popular snack foods that includes pretzels, cookies, chocolate bars and cups, mints, licorice twists and popcorn, as well as olive oil, balsamic vinegar, dried fruit, coffee, tea and pet food. Pop’s Corn, available in three microwave varieties, features organic corn with no partially hydrogenated shortening or trans fatty acids. All products are certified by Oregon Tilth as meeting the organic standards established by the USDA’s National Organic Program. Through the sale of its products, Newman’s Own Organics generates money for the Newman’s Own Foundation. Since 1982, the Newman’s Own Foundation has donated more than 400 million dollars to a wide variety of charitable organizations.

Taza Chocolate founder Alex Whitmore took his first bite of stoneground chocolate while traveling in Oaxaca, Mexico. He was so inspired by its rustic intensity that he decided to create a chocolate factory back home in Somerville, Massachusetts. Whitmore apprenticed under a molinero in Oaxaca to learn how to hand-carve granite mill stones to make a new kind of American chocolate that is simply crafted, but seriously good. Taza is a pioneer in ethical cacao sourcing. It was the first U.S. chocolate maker to establish a third-party certified direct trade cacao certification program. It maintains direct relationships with cacao farmers and pays a premium above the fair trade price for their cacao. Taza Chocolate partners only with cacao producers who respect the rights of workers and the environment.
