Featured Event: 'Almost Sunrise' at the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary

Where: Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary – Stavros Hall, 4201 North Main Street, Columbia, SC

When: 01/17/2018 at 6:30pm

Join the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary for a free screening of Almost Sunrise. A discussion following the film will examine the effects of war-time service in the US military and consider spirituality and paths to healing and hope in reentering civil society. The film screening and panel discussion aim to broaden awareness of the impact of war-time military service on those who serve, families and loved ones. With growing interest in moral injury, this program aims to offer a forum to consider spiritual resources for healing and hope.

Almost Sunrise Conversation Starter:

Some researchers and journalists exploring the concept of moral injury describe it as a wound to the “soul” or the “conscience”—words that are often part of a religious or spiritual lexicon. How might a veteran’s spiritual or religious beliefs influence their moral injury and healing? What role, if any, do you think religious or spiritual beliefs or rituals play in shaping an individual’s moral compass? How might they assist in “moral repair”?
