About Rockland Public Library’s Thursday night event series: This February, the Rockland Public Library’s Thursday night event series is focusing on life in prison and includes an author talk with a former prison guard, information about the K9 Corrections program, and a screening of the documentary Herman’s House.

Herman’s House Conversation Starter: Herman Wallace’s supporters suspect that he has been placed in solitary confinement in part to prevent him from sharing Black Panther philosophies with other inmates (a belief that was later confirmed by deposition testimony). In your view, would it ever be acceptable to isolate an inmate to prevent him from “spreading ideas”? If so, under what circumstances? If not, why not?

For more prompts for discussion, take a look at Herman’s House Discussion Guide.
