In Memory of Kartemquin Films Co-Founder Jerry Blumenthal

Watch POV’s interview with Kartemquin Films co-founders Jerry Blumenthal and Gordon Quinn for their 1990 POV documentary Golub, which is now streaming free.

In November, Kartemquin Films founding member Jerry Blumenthal passed away. His work as a director, producer, editor and recorder since 1967 was an invaluable addition to the documentary world and many POV programs over the years.

“Jerry was my filmmaking partner for over four decades,” said Gordon Quinn on at Kartemquin. “His sense of story, people, politics, and art and artists, will be missed. With Kartemquin we went through good times and bad, but with Jerry we always found time to laugh.”

To remember Jerry Blumenthal, we’ve brought back Golub (POV 1990), which he and Kartemquin co-founder Gordon Quinn directed and produced.

About Golub:
The role of art in America has been debated recently everywhere from the Halls of Congress to the local shopping mall. Golub is more than a portrait of the socially committed painter Leon Golub, whose massive canvases are intended to provoke viewers. It is about media and contemporary society, social responsibility and creativity, art and information. Watch the film, now streaming for free on POV through March 31, 2015.
