The Fight for Home is not just a story about the distinct character of New Orleans; it speaks to the character of our nation. Daniel Wolff shows how the people who rebuilt New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, like the people who rebuilt Chicago after our Great Fire, would be defined not by tragedy, but by their great fortitude and triumph.” – Rahm Emanuel, Mayor of Chicago.

Daniel Wolff’s new book, The Fight for Home: How (Parts of) New Orleans Came Back (Bloomsbury, Aug. 7, 2012) is another aspect of the ongoing project he is producing with Jonathan Demme that includes I’m Carolyn Parker: The Good, the Mad, and the Beautiful, which will premiere on POV September 20th.

The book tells the story of post-Katrina New Orleans through the voices of local residents and volunteers, including fearless matriarch Carolyn Parker, a lifelong resident of the Lower Ninth Ward.

We’re excited to be teaming up with Bloomsbury for a nine-city book and screening tour beginning on Thursday, August 16, 2012, in New Orleans and ending in Woodstock, NY, on October 13, 2012. Daniel Wolff will be in-person for all screenings and talks.
