Documentarian Ken Burns Making Film on Muhammad Ali
The late Muhammad Ali is getting the Ken Burns treatment. The PBS documentarian announced Tuesday that he and two partners will make a two-part, four-hour film about the former heavyweight champ, who died last June. Burns, his daughter Sarah and David McMahon collaborated for a PBS documentary on Jackie Robinson that debuted last year.

Cleveland 2017: Documentary Overview
This year the fest refocuses its long running nonfiction prize, the Nesnadny + Schwartz Documentary Competition, specifically on portraiture, featuring such projects as Kevin Burke’s exploration of film promotion, 24X36: A Movie About Movie Posters; and Jeff Malmberg and Chris Shellen’s look at an Italian village that holds an annual play about themselves, Spettacolo.

‘California Typewriter’: Documentary Featuring Tom Hanks, John Mayer Gets Late Summer Release
Gravitas Ventures has bought U.S. rights to the documentary California Typewriter, which will open the 41st Cleveland International Film Festival on Wednesday. California Typewriter, which premiered at the 2016 Telluride Film Festival, will open theatrically in Los Angeles, New York and a dozen additional markets in the late summer.
