Review: In ‘The Eagle Huntress,’ a Girl From Kazakhstan Soars
Aisholpan is a 13-year-old girl who lives in Kazakhstan, dividing her time between a boarding school and her nomadic family’s campsite. With the release of The Eagle Huntress, a thrilling new documentary directed by Otto Bell, she may well become something else: a pop-culture heroine with the power to inspire girls (and not only girls) everywhere. It would not be surprising on future Halloweens to spot a handful of Aisholpans, dressed in traditional fur-and-embroidery hunting gear, pigtails fastened with pink bows, amid the throngs of Elsas and Katnisses.

Anthony Bourdain to Produce Documentary on Food Waste
Fans of author and Parts Unknown host Anthony Bourdain will soon have the chance to catch him on the silver screen, as the globetrotter has announced a new documentary film project. The chef will be tackling the subject of food waste with the help of some culinary giants in a documentary titled Wasted! The Story of Food Waste, Variety reports.

Sundance Institute Awards $1M To Documentary Projects
Sundance Institute has shelled out more than $1 million to documentary projects and artists nationwide whose subjects — ranging from police violence, natural disasters and income inequality to family legacy, trans rights and education in the developing world — reflect the inclusive range of the institute’s mission.

IDA Documentary Awards Nominees Revealed
Ava DuVernay’s 13th and Ezra Edelman’s O.J.: Made in America have both been nominated for the International Documentary Association’s 2016 IDA Documentary Awards — along with Kirsten Johnson’s Cameraperson, Gianfranco Rosi’s Fire at Sea, Raoul Peck’s I Am Not Your Negro and Josh Kriegman and Elyze Steinberg’s Weiner.
