TEDxRedmond
This Saturday (September 10, 2011), Project VoiceScape grant-winning teen Alejandra Gama is set to speak at TEDxRedmond, a conference organized by middle and high school students, and featuring presentations by youth who demonstrate extraordinary leadership in fields including performing arts, education and social action.
TEDx events are independently organized versions of the “Ideas Worth Spreading” conference TED. If you haven’t visited TED’s online video library, with speakers ranging from Steve Jobs to Al Gore, you should!
Alejandra, a resident of Goodyear, Arizona, has grown up witnessing the effects of immigration policy on a generation of natural-born U.S. citizens whose parents have undocumented status. She’s bringing these young people’s experiences to audiences with her documentary, Right To Be An American, and now, with TEDx!

TEDxRedmond takes place on Microsoft’s campus in Redmond, Washington, and is curated by 12-year-old author Adora Svitak, who spoke at TED Long Beach about “childish” thinking and wanted to bring the the experience home. In Redmond, she’s helping spread the idea that “anyone can have an impact on their world, regardless of age, race or gender.”
