Ask the Filmmaker

Kevin from Massachusetts asks: I enjoyed the film, and I think Stan Jr. is a very talented artist. How can I buy his art?

Andrew Walton: We are working to try and get Stan Jr.'s work online for sale. However, with winter approaching in Old Crow, it is tough to coordinate anything. Stayed tuned to this website for more information about his art.

Philip from Connecticut asks: What a beautiful film! I wanted to know format the film was shot in. Also, you said that "Arctic Son" took about five years to make. What was your annual schedule like for those five years? How many months out of the year did you spend in Old Crow? Thanks for a great story.

Walton: Thank you. We shot the film in 24P on a Panasonic DVX 100. We scheduled our trips around the season changes, spending anywhere from one to three weeks at a time shooting in Old Crow.

Craig from Nevada asks: Are there any similarities between Old Crow and where you grew up?

Walton: No, there really are no similarities. Although I've always spent a lot of time in the outdoors, fishing, camping, etc., I grew up in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan.

Shelby from Alaska asks: I was wondering where you and your crew stayed when you shot the scene where the Stans went camping? How did you maneuver your camera and equipment around when you were shooting the hunting and trapping scenes?

Walton: We stayed with the Stans in a very small cabin, and we traveled by ski-doo.

Lisa from New York asks: The music in the film is great. Where can I find a full listing of the music used? And is the soundtrack available for purchase?

Walton: Michael Rohatyn wa the composed for the film. Unfortunately, we are not currently selling the soundtrack.
